Not really for me
Ok. So this one I didn't like as much as the other two. I hate being in the review minority. But this one didn't work for me. The part I'm having a hard time with is getting over is the fact that Noah only wanted Kiki because his first wife died. So, if she was still alive this would not be an issue? But he loved Kiki and not his wife? He married his wife because she got pregnant before they broke up. After they only had been together a few months? He couldn't have been a father to a child without marrying its mother? Even though he was in a relationship with Kiki.
Second chances do exist
Noah and Kiki are the latest couple in the wonderful books that make up the Stark world.
Noah lost Kiki years ago and never got over her. In the meantime, he did what he thought was right and it was ripped away from him.
Kiki has been living her life trying to recover from the heartbreak Noah gave her. Just when she has things together and is truly moving on he comes back into her life.
Can she forgive what he did a decade ago and can their second chance give them the future they always wanted?
Fantastic Stark Universe Story
Noah & Kiki are a second chance romance riddled with guilt and what could-have-beens. Noah moves to Austin and sees his long lost love performing again. A simple kiss brings along a lot of memories. Through trials and tribulations, we see if this couple can find their way back to one another while dealing with ghosts and decisions of their past. I liked that Damien made several appearances in this story along with Lyle and Wyatt. Overall, I think this a fantastic story in the Stark Universe.
An emotional roller coaster...
Wicked Torture by J. Kenner is the third book in the Stark World series. An emotional roller coaster of a novel with drama that both main characters will need to overcome in order to get their HEA.
Noah Carter is a genius and successful on the outside but inside he is tortured by his past and loss of his wife and his daughter after they were abducted more than eight years ago. Burying himself in his work, Noah has been keeping himself away from any emotional ties that is until he meets Kiki Porter again. His love whom he left behind for the woman having his child.
Kiki Porter is one of those people who sees the better side of things, but her history with Noah has left her less than optimistic about being with him.
J. Kenner once again has created complex characters which are passionate but tortured. Wicked Torture is a rocky ride when history tries to repeat it self but you can't help but root for Noah and Kiki to get it right this time. I enjoyed the battle between them that lit into something more and passion that was unquenchable. The constant battle that Kiki has with herself about Noah, and Noah's own struggles make a rather tortuous path that makes it all the sweeter in the end.
Overall, I recommend Wicked Torture by J. Kenner as a roller coaster of a book. With characters who have pasts with each other there are always boulders in the water to navigate and that is what drove the story forward and the characters together.
(I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the author in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
I didn’t want this book to end!
OH MAN! I need more Kiki and Noah! I didn't want their story to be over. Noah is a tortured soul. He has suffered heartbreak most people won't ever have to deal with. He's been suffering on his own and recently had to make a career change in order to help himself. He's coming around to the idea of finally living again. Kiki shows up unexpectedly in his life and ignites a passion between them that has never been forgotten. Kiki wants to fight it, but their chemistry is off the charts. I enjoyed watching them get the chance to get to know each other again. Neither one of them healed from the past and now they have the opportunity to finally get closure. I love a good second chance love story and this one is definitely not one to be missed! I was completely consumed by their story and didn't want to put the book down! I inhaled this read and absolutely LOVED it! Go grab your copy today!
A second chance at romance?
By Waiting to be fixed
It was love and then nothing for ten years until Kiki ran into Noah, the man who broke her heart into a million pieces after her first singing gig in years. Noah was not without his scars as well. He married a woman who he did not love because he did not want to be like his father and skip out on raising his child. However, fate had other plans for him and he never forgot about Kiki. Now the two are working together on a project for a Stark Enterprise offshoot and the feelings of the past are reigniting on both sides. Will they be able to forgive the past and forge a new relationship together? As usual Ms. Kenner has written a mesmeric addition to the Stark World trilogy with this third book and you will not be able to put it down.
I volunteered to read an arc of this book.
From Tortured to Scorched!
By Sharon in SF
I love all of J Kenner's Stark series novels (and novellas)! All of her Heroes and heroines possess strong character traits, story plots twist and turn, and most end in satisfying HEA's! I say most, mainly, because I always want more Nikki and Damien!
Wicked Torture follows the same great format, where we finally see into computer genius, Noah Carter, and his second chance heroine, Kiki Porter. Fate reunites them on a chance meeting when Noah decides to go have a drink in a local bar rather than return to his hotel room. He's recently relocated to head up Stark Applied Technology Austin (SATA- I doubt this acronym was a coincidental match for the SATA hard drive in some of our computers).
He was in love with Kiki about 10 years prior when he made a decision to do the "right thing" which left both of them devastated. He's not only been carrying guilt for feeling responsible for his wife and daughter's deaths, but also for hurting Kiki when they broke up. When they meet again, both are reluctant to rekindle anything because Noah still carries a profound guilt for how deeply he hurt Kiki, and Kiki doesn't know if she can ever trust Noah with her heart again. Of course neither of them are really able to bury the love they still carry for one another so they agree to "cautiously" proceed. The scenes when they finally let their guard down explode with passion as if no time has passed. In the working world, they complement one another so well, and I absolutely love Noah for supporting Kiki in her dream of restarting her music career.
In the twist and turns of the story plot, characters from other Stark Universe books make cameos, which makes readers like this reviewer, giddy with seeing some of their "old friends" again! Enjoyed the epilogue, though I wish it would have been longer! All in all, J Kenner did not disappoint!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 Wicked Stars!
Wicked Torture by J. Kenner was very wicked in the sense that the author truly played with our emotions in this third installment of The Stark World. In this book, Kenner didn’t hold back at all as she hooked, punched, and left reader begging for more in this deeply poignant, heartwarming and beautiful second chance love story. In all honesty, this is one of those reads you have to read for yourself and trust me when I tell you, you will indeed fall in love with Kenner’s hypnotic and sexy prose. So if you are ready for a romance that will make your heart ache and at the same time be filled with so much yearning then this is the book for you.
Ack Noah and Kiki's story! Noah and his life just make you want to alternately bawl for him and hug him. He has been through so much and you really just feel for him while you can't believe how he is living with his past.
Kiki is finally living her dream and singing. Until the one day she picks up the mic again and sees Noah - the one who made it all go away.
This Stark World series is AMAZING and I will definitely be re-reading it again. I need another visit to the stories.
One Emotional Second Chance
By Fairest Reviews
I was so not anticipating the emotional torture that the latest book in the Stark World series would bring into my reading experience, but I should have known that J. Kenner’s heroes are about as tortured as they come and her heroines find a way to bring their men as well as readers to their knees, so even if I was ill-prepared, I was able to roll with the punches and embrace this second chance love story for the incredible journey that it is.
The Stark World is one of high risks, which is why each hero in this setting knows what it means to lose big but also what it means to win it all, and while Noah is fairly new to all that Stark Enterprises offers, he knows what it’s like to hit rock bottom, losing his heart and his mind in the process, and he also knows what it means to soar without fear, holding onto the other half of your soul, unafraid of losing yourself in someone else, and it’s those feelings that he wants and quite frankly needs in his life again because for far too long, he’s merely been existing, which only leaves him empty and thinking about what might have been. But the only way he is going to get another shot at happiness is if he proves to Kiki as well as himself that he will not allow anything or anyone to stand in his way of reclaiming the one woman who has always been his, even after he broke her heart…even after everything fell apart.
Readers can’t help but support Noah’s efforts to salvage what’s left of Kiki’s feelings for him and repair the damage that he caused, and while he does go about things in less than desirable ways, at times, every action and reaction is because of the stronghold that Kiki has on him, and he refuses to go without Kiki’s smiles, her laughter, her heart, and her body any longer.
But I have to admit that Noah’s character did feel a little flat…a little static when it came to learning from his mistakes. His decision all those years ago categorically changed not only his life but Kiki’s life as well and that doesn’t seem to be taken into consideration when he, once again, has to be make a monumental choice…that left me feeling a little put off and a whole lot frustrated because one would think that clarity would be gained the second time around, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Noah.
I loved Kiki, but she frustrated me at times as well. Her actions and reactions to Noah made perfect sense given their history and the fact that she’s been left behind by other people than just him, but I wanted to experience more of her quick temper and I needed her to make Noah work for every step he took back into her life after breaking her heart.
Despite my frustrations, though, Wicked Torture is a fabulous addition to J. Kenner’s Stark World series and the pop-ins she allows her previous characters to make in her new characters’ stories make for fantastic catch-ups with old friends.
I don’t know how J. keeps track of all her alpha males in this dynamic setting she’s created, but I, for one, can’t get enough of them or their leading ladies and I hope that she allows readers to remain in this world forever because it’s definitely one delectably hot and sweet escape from reality;)
